The Town Clerk's office is responsible for a variety of municipal and intergovernmental services and maintains daily records of a variety of transactions conducted through the office. It is this office's duty to maintain and protect public records and to ensure public access to those records. We are here to help you.

The services conducted by the Town Clerk include:

  • Recordings
    • Record all deeds relating to the land records in the Town of Bethel
    • Record and preserve all Town of Bethel board and commission agendas, legal notices and minutes
  • Vital Records
    • Record all certificates of birth, marriage, and death
    • Issue marriage licenses, burial permits and certified copies of all vital records
  • Certified Notary Public with the State of Connecticut
    • Notarize documents for the general public
    • Give oaths of office to all new and renewing Connecticut State Notary Publics and keep a record of the same
  • Voter Registration
    • Register voters in absence of the Registrar of Voters
    • Issue voter identification cards
    • Record campaign finance statements, nomination papers, referenda and other petitions
  • Town Charter
    • Publish and keep updated all changes in the Bethel Town Charter and Code
    • Assist the general public in interpreting the same
  • Licenses
    • Issue sportsmen's licenses, keep a record of the same and remit it monthly to the State of CT
    • Trade Name Certificates issued and kept current from 1935 through the present
    • Issue dog licenses
    • Collect and file current rabies certificates

2010 MetroNorth Parking Permits

The renewal process for the 2010 MetroNorth Parking Permits has been completed. We are currently working on the waiting list and notifying those listed of the availability of the remaining permits that were not renewed. We expect to complete this process  within the next 2 weeks.

Dog Licensing
According to State Statute 22-338, The State of Connecticut requires that all dogs over the age of 6 months be licensed during the month of June every year. The fee for spayed or neutered dogs is $8.00 and $19.00 for non-spayed or non-neutered dogs. For every month after June that licensing does not take place, a late fee of $1.00 per dog per month will be imposed. A current rabies vaccination certificate is required. Licensing may be done through the mail by sending a copy of the current rabies certificate, a check in the proper amount made payable to the Town Clerk and a self addressed stamped envelope to: 1 School Street; Attn: Town Clerk; Bethel, CT 06801

2010/2011 Transfer Station Permits
The 2010/2011 Bethel Transfer Station Annual Permits will be available in the Town Clerk's Office beginning June 14, 2010. The fee for an annual permit is now $50.00.
Lisa Bergh, Town Clerk will be present at the Transfer Station on Saturday, June 12, 2010 and Saturday, June 19, 2010 from 7:00 AM to Noon & 1pm to 3pm to sell/renew permits.
Please have the application completed and cash or a check in the amount of $50.00 payable to the Bethel Town Clerk. Forms may be obtained online here [PDF].
